Open source doesn't mean Facebook didn't use it for their own long term profit strategy of getting into that space and getting people to come where they are.

The written interactions behind their decisions are absolutely damning. Of course meta can get away with it because justice is for the little guy and not corporations but claiming "fair use" protects them is rich, considering Facebook's and other companies roles in banning content left and right under the "copyright" banner.
